ABOUT US

This is the website of Suus Van Oene (29) from Duivendrecht near Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Simon Reap (31) from Ashford, Kent, England.

In 2001 they met each other in Goa, India. Suus, who was studying marketing in Deventer, a small city in the heart of the Netherlands, was accepted for a 5 months work placement in a small tour operator in North Goa. At the same time Simon who was working as an overseas resort rep for a specialist tour operator based in Turkey was asked if he would like to work through the winter in Goa. On the day Simon arrived in Goa they were introduced in the office and have been together ever since.

Suus grew up in small village called Duivendrecht a 25 minutes bike ride from the city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Being a Dutchie cycling had been a big part of her life since she was born, but this is a normal aspect of everyday life in Holland. She remembers sitting on the front of her mums bike and on the back of her dads bike as a small child, trips to the supermarket, shopping in the city, fun days out all involved the bicycle. Her mum and dad were also keen cyclists and had made long trips in Britain, Ireland, France and Belgium with the bikes. Suus does not regard cycling as a sport at all, just a means to get from A to B and is just as comfortable on a bike as she is walking. She is most looking forward to going to Japan and eating Pad Thai everyday in Thailand without feeling guilty and is least looking forward to discovering what it’s like to cycle up real hills.

Simon grew up in the small town of Ashford, Kent right at the centre of the garden of England. Cycling was a big part of his life as a kid to get around, always exploring the surrounding countryside on the bike. However, in England the car rules and at 17 the bike was ditched for an extremely cool black Ford Fiesta 950cc. Simon rediscovered cycling in his first season in Turkey when he was told that to get around the hotels he could either cycle in 40 degree temperatures in the mountains or have to take the scary local Dolmus bus around, it was an easy choice! Simon fell in love with cycling again and felt happier and fitter then he had in years. After coming to Amsterdam in 2002 cycling is now part of his everyday life and he loves nothing better then cycling along the canals on a sunny day.  Simon is most looking forward to cycling the coastal route in India and talking about football with locals in every country he visits. He is least looking forward to rainy days cycling into the wind.

For the last 7 and a half years they have lived worked and studied in Turkey, Amsterdam, Goa and Bangkok and they are addicted to travelling.
